Disturbance in the Night (Quentin/Amy/Cecillia)

[Quentin Collins]

Feeling an unordinary disturbance in the household of Collinwood, Quentin’s ghost was summoned back to the great house and its activities. Realizing immediately that the people who passed themselves off as family friends were not completely truthful, he kept a watchful eye over them, following them to the Old House. Recognizing the two men as gentleman he had met so many years before, his curiosity was further struck. These were two men he had been anything but friendly with, and their presence in his families homestead was not very welcome.

As the two departed, Quentin kept a watchful eye over the house until at last entering the deteriorating walls that housed the two women. Finding them in an upstairs bedroom he stood in the depleting shadows at the foot of the bed, staring at them with a volatile gaze. Imagining everything that could and likely should be done to the imposters, his thoughts were interrupted as the older of the two began to stir about. Stepping back as to not be seen, Quentin further watched with fascination, his eyes shining black as night.

Tossing and turning on the bed slightly images flashed through Amy’s mind as she was sleeping. Eventually waking up she found herself breathing hard. Seeing it wasn’t quite dawn yet she looked over at her cousin still asleep. Getting out of bed she looked around the abandon room seeing tapestry and wallpaper of a house she grew up in fall to pieces. Taking a few steps towards the window a slight gust wind surrounded Amy causing her to shiver. Turing around with curiosity she saw no one in the room besides her cousin. Turning once more she lowered her head then was disrupted by tapping in the distance. Knowing there was something or someone causing it, Amy slowly approached the door, realizing it was locked. Turning around she saw Cecillia slowly awake, “Cecillia are you alright? I feel there is someone in the house.”

Awaking and seeing Amy scurrying around near the door of the room, Cecillia sat up in bed, then got out, feeling a chill come over her. “Someone in the house,” she questioned, shivering at the thought. Moving over next to Amy, Cecillia also heard the faint taping noise, and as she scanned the darkened corners of the room, saw a shady figure immerge. Unknowingly grasping Amy’s arm, Cecillia watched the figure continue to step forward until at last she recognized it. “Quentin,” she whispered, staring up at Amy with a mixed look.

As Quentin stepped out into the center of the room the light from the night shown in on him, exposing his appearance to the girls. Baffled by their recognition of him, he took a step closer to them, placing a crooked grin on his face. Suddenly from afar, a familiar tune to him began to ring out, filling the air with the haunting melody from years and years back. Looking at Amy and Cecillia’s faces he bellowed a laugh, not taking his eyes off of them.

Amy starred at the being known only to her as Quentin Collins. Staring into his dark eyes she heard the various sounds coming from the phonograph. Approaching slowly towards him slowly, Amy glared at him. “Why have you come, you know we are not from this time.” Watching Cecillia approach ever so close to the man, Amy couldn’t help but stop her but found her self grounded. “Please, I don’t know what you want of me.”

Quentin, amused by Amy’s questions, simply grinned at her, stopping her in her place. Letting the other proceed, he felt an unknown connection between her. Glaring down at Cecillia as she stood in front of him, Quentin brushed her hair back, looking deeply into her eyes. There was something compelling about her, he simply couldn’t figure out exactly what. Pushing her away Quentin silenced the music the approached Amy. Walking around her, surveying her, he then stopped, still glaring. As a rooster sounded in the distance, Quentin made his way towards the window. Stopping by it, he turned, looking at the two women. Then, as he quickly vanished, a tiny, old key fell to the floor where he once stood.

Feeling the ability to move again Amy leaned over as the spirit left. She knew Quentin wasn’t fond of anyone who wasn’t a direct link in him, looking back in the direction where the spirit was, Amy looked down seeing an antique key. “What’s this,” she said her vision beginning to blur from exhaust. Picking it up, she glanced at Cecillia, “Are you alright Cecillia?” She turned back towards the key, “It seems Quentin left us a key. Curious as to what it went to, Amy passed it to Cecillia. “Its probably for you.”

Taking the key from Amy, Cecillia looked at it puzzled. "That was very strange Amy," she replied. "I guess I'm used to the ghost of Quentin actually knowing who I am, but I feel as though he nearly felt it tonight." Placing the key on the nearby dresser she turned back towards the bed. "We probably should try to get to sleep now, and then hopefully find the jewelry box tomorrow." With an exhausted sigh, she climbed back into the bed, quickly falling back asleep as the daylight began to fill the room.
